Bringing Pure Jaggery

Eco Tech Agro Mills, situated in Bamungaon, Assam, is the first sugarcane processing plant of its kind. This innovative and modern technology allows us to produce jaggery from sugarcane juice without burning any of the residual biomass, thereby preventing the addition of copious amounts of CO2 to our environment.

Traditionally, jaggery is made by boiling sugarcane juice in open pans using biomass as fuel; a process that is both unhygienic, due to the open nature of the pans, and environmentally harmful, because of the CO2 released. Due to the popular belief that light coloured jaggery is pure, these small units also resort to adding artificial colours and chemicals to alter the natural colour of the jaggery.

Eco Tech Agro Mills uses the new MVR technology developed by Spray Engineering Devices Ltd, Mohali, which allows us to evaporate the water from sugarcane juice in a much more efficient way. Our MVR process uses compressed vapours to create a partial vacuum so that the sugarcane juice can be evaporated at much lower temperatures, thereby requiring much less heat. This allows us to not burn our bagasse, preventing CO2 emissions, and re-capture most of the water from the sugarcane, which is a great resource for irrigating farmer’s fields around our plant. In fact, we don’t have a boiler, a major source of pollution in most industries and our waste water is now being used in nearby paddy fields for growing rice in winter.

Our jaggery is made in a totally closed loop environment, protected from external impurities, in stainless steel containers that produce the purest product in the market today. The entire operation is in DCS system and fully automated and does not require any human intervention between the sugarcane being fed in the machinery and the packaging of the finished product. The jaggery is packed in airtight pouches in a controlled dehumidified environment.
